Port Royal late afternoon

Redo

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

The weather was all over on this trip. It had been overcast all day, and just before sunset, the clouds opened up. I love this light.

Specific Feedback

What can I do to make it better?
What kind of heron is this?

Technical Details

image

Hi Steve. I think this is a Tri-colored Heron, which used to be called the Louisiana Heron. I love the light in this image and the detail in the heron is fine. Normally, I’d prefer the bird looking to the side or front, but with that open area in the reeds in the background, the head turn really works beautifully. An excellent image.

Thanks @Dennis_Plank
I have updated the title
As you know, I am not a birder; I see the birds as supermodels.
Someone told me at NPN you call them birdscapes.
Thanks for the kind words and for identifying the bird.
Steve

Hi Steve, nice lighting on the bird and agree that the bird’s gaze into the open spot in the reeds is quite nice. Well composed and well done image.
